I wasn't in class today because I was out of town.

Today in Human Geo we started off by taking a quiz. We did it on the maps we learned earlier the week and I felt pretty good because I knew all of them very easily. The quiz was almost identical to the worksheet so that really helped make it easier. I think I got a good grade so I’m happy about that. Then we started talking about site and situation. Today we focused on site. Site is a physical characteristic of a place. These include features like soil, climate, water sources, latitude, elevation, and topography. Topography is the factors like elevation, mountains, hills, rocky areas, etc. All these things will determine how each area lives. Different food type and activities will change based off the type of site it has. I think today’s class was pretty good and I’m glad we got to take the quiz because I will be absent Thursday and Friday and it will be one less thing I have to make up.

Today in lass we started off my going over our maps from last week because we should be expecting a quiz soon. We reviewed the "Big Picture Map" and the "Closer Look Map". Then we started talking about current affairs. Especially North Korea and the threat of world war 3. We talked about the nuclear weapons and the possible threats of them sending off bombs. We also talked about what the US should do about it all. Almost everyone had different views about it and some students had very crazy views. Then we talked about the current event of the football players not wanting to stand for the national anthem. We discussed the different points of views and whether or not we thought they were disrespectful. We had a very eventful and a pretty entertaining class.

We started off class by going over the maps we made for last night's homework. Then we talked about places and regions. We discussed the topic question of "why is each point on the Earth unique". We discussed the definitions of place and region. A place is a unique location of a feature. A region is an area of unique characteristics. Each point on the Earth is in some way unique and also in some way different compared to other places. These two basic concepts help geographers to explain why every point on Earth is in some ways unique. Then we talked about the area where we live and how it was different between some people in the class. Overall, today's class was very important because I think places and regions will be a key concept on our next quiz and/or test.

Today in English class we talked about mental maps. We started to focus on two main questions. They were how do you describe where things are? And how do you describe your daily routine? Then we talked about mental maps. Mental maps are a persons point of view of perception of their area of interaction most commonly called your activity space. No one really had a totally accurate image of the world. Also, We started off the class by getting our tests back, i got a 92!! Anyway, then we got the assignment to create two maps. One is of the world and what we think it looks like without looking online or at an actual map, and the other is a map of our daily routine and drive from home to school. I will be doing this as homework because i didn't finish in class. Overall, today was a good class.

Today in class we sorta had a free period. While Mr. Shick finished grading some of our essays on the test, other students who were absent got to make up the test. It gave those who were absent time to make up the test in class so that they all got caught up and now we’re all on the same page. Anyone else was able to do homework or any other school activities that they needed to do. It was a nice chance to be able to have some time to get things done. I did my French homework and I finished that! That was very helpful because now I don't have to do that later durning my free mod. I have my free later today but now I can use that time for math homework and hopefully I will be able to get that done. Then I checked my emails and wrote this blog. I hope that I got a good grade on my test because it's important because it's our first test. I'm also hoping the rest of the class did good so that we can have a pizza party. Even though today was a free day, I still fel

In Friday's class we talked mostly about maps. We reviewed the worksheet that we did in the previous class and talked about each map. Then we looked at two maps; the Peters map and the Mercator map. the Mercator map was created early on and was used to help sailors travel. However, while doing this it altered each size of the continents. Since this was the official map at the time, it stuck. This is also still the map we use today. However recently a new map- the Peters map, has been created in order to really convey the true size of each continent. This is the map that should be used in schools because it portrays more accuracy. The problem with having a poorly proportioned map is that many people associate size with power. So since the Mercator map is incorrect many people think certain continents and countries are more powerful or less powerful... just because of size. We also watched a clip from the movie "The East Ring", where we can see the Peters map being discuss

Today in class we started to talk about geographical regions. Mr. Schick told us about how now we will be starting to get into a hard unit and that listening and note taking will be key. Then we discussed the meaning of a region and we also talked about the key questions for our unit. Next we discussed how each region was different and what factors made each of them unique. Things like food, crops, culture, traditions, language, religion, and climate are examples of how every region is different. So we talked about that for a while and how each region uses it’s differences to thrive. Then we started a worksheet where we looked at a map and we wrote down each region. The worksheet was kinda difficult because there were so many regions listed but not all of them were used. Overall I think today’s class was a good start to the new unit.

In today's class we took our first test. I feel pretty good about it and I feel like yesterday's review was very helpful. There was definitely a question or two that I felt like I got wrong but other than that I think I did very well on everything else. The one question I didn't know was the one "what was the name for the person who would write shorthand", I tried to remember but I couldn't think of the name. The essay questions were relatively easy and I did know those questions pretty well so I think I did good on that, I just hope that I explained them well enough. I felt pretty well prepared overall especially because of the in class review that we did. I am hoping that I got at least an A, I would be fine with a B but i'm hoping for an A. I hope the rest of the class did well too because then we might possibly get cookies! Overall, i would say today's test was a good first test and hopefully will be a great way to start off my grade.

Today in class we reviewed the whole time for our test tomorrow. the whole class was given the opportunities to ask any questions we had or we thought would be on the test. we talked about A Message To Garcia , ancient Greece and Socrates. We asked questions such as... what is n Agora, what type of government did Greece have, who is President Mckinley, what is the moral of the story, etc. We talked about Socrates and his trial and death. we talked about his life quote and more. It was nice to have a chance to talk about this and review for the big test. it is our first test and Mr. Shick said if we all get an A, then he will bring us cookies. I hope I get a good grade on this test because it will be a good way to start the year.

Today in class we started by reviewing yesterdays research points and we especially went over Socrates. I learned that he actually thought that philosophers should run the government because they were more educated.  Then we talked about the definition of idiot, the Greeks used it as a way to describe people who weren't involved in their government and community. They were viewed as dishonorable. Then we took a look at socrates famous quote "an unexamined life is not worth living". This quote to me is looked in a way that if you don't live your life questioning and wondering things about our word, then is there really a point to live? Why would you want to live a dull meaningless life? Socrates firmly believed this as well. We also spent time in class discussing hurricane Irma, as a way of questioning our life, today's class was very eventful and I felt like I learned a lot of useful information that will be used for the test.

Today in Human Geo we did a mini research project. We continued a little on the topic of excellence and A Message To Garcia , but we further explored Greek culture. We researched agora, polis, Socrates, Socrative method, the significance of 508 BC, and we also looked at what the word "idiot" mean to the greeks. Agora is the spiritual and political life of the city, used for polls and decisions for the government. Socrates is a Greek philosopher and is considered the founder of Western philosophy. He was put on trial for impiety and the corruption of Athen's youth. He lost the trial and was sentenced to death by poison hemlock. The Socrative method was named and created after him and it is a system of asking a serious of questions in a debate. We also found out that in 508 BC democracy was first announced in Athens by Cleisthenes. This was also the first time ever that someone revolted against their leader. We are going to talk about the definition of

Today in class we analyzed A Message To Garcia and the story's background. It all started as an inspirational essay and was published in 1899, and it quickly and unexpectedly went viral. It was made into pamphlets and movies, it got translated into 37 different languages, and it sold over 40 million copies. The story is set in the Spanish American war when cuban was seeking independence from Spain. The story is about the 25th president, Mckinley who gave army officer Rowan a message that he needed to get to Garcia. Rowan took these orders to heart and put all his effort into getting the letter to Garcia. Mckinley was assassinated in his second term and due to this, he got the mountain Denali named after him but in 2015 the original name was returned. Anyway, Rowan got this message delivered right away because it was his order and he had the responsibility. The moral of the story is to take initiative, which is "to do the right thing without being told" and this is still a

A Message to Garcia and my five point action plan

A Message to Garcia is a wonderful story of hard work and excellence. It is written by Elbert Hubbard about two men with completely different life styles. While one is a hard worker and wonderful man, the other is simply a slacker. He is incompetent and never seems to get his work done, no matter how big or important the task. After reading this, at first is was hard to understand, but after re-reading you finally get to see how much a persons will to work really effects them and other people. In this case doing your work quickly and efficiently could mean life or death for others. So, when you don't do your work the way it is intended to be done, there are going to serious consequences that follow. Another consequence could be getting a bad reputation just like one of the characters Elbert Hubbard is ranting about. If you tend to slack off more in work it will hurt you, others and your future immensely. Others won't want to hire you, therefore you will have a great struggle fi
