Today in human geo we watched a video. The video was done by Hans Rosling, he teaches that teaches Global Health. He demonstrated his idea through a graph. The X axis was life expectancy of age 25-75, and the Y axis was wealth, ranging from $400- $40000. It showed a bunch of different countries plotted on the graph. Including Unites States, Middle east, America, and Sub Saharan Africa. He was showing how in the year 1810 most countries were below 40 for life expectancy except for UK and Netherlands. However as the years went up more countries increased in wealth and life expectancy. So that means, hopefully, as the years go on the world will increase in health and wealth. Then at the end of class we talked about inventions and future technology.

Today in human geo we watched a Ted Ed about population pyramids. We learned about demographic transition which is using characteristics such as age, gender, and trends to determine where a country will be in the future.  We talked about industrialization and pre and post industrialization. The industrial revolution is the time period when people started using machines/ technology. High industrialization led to an increase in population and lower child mortality rates. More people moved from a rural area to an urban area in order to get more jobs and work with factories. Overall today was mainly about facts we haven't yet learned about population pyramids.

Today in human geo we started off by getting our tests back. I got a 92% so I am very happy and now I have an A in this class. Then we moved into reviewing the test. We went around the room and everyone shared an answer or two. Then we talked a little bit about the Kiva assignment and how it is due today and that we only have 5 people in our class that actually made a loan. This is less than most other years so maybe more people will donate. Then we finished reviewing the test. When we were done with that we had less than 10 minutes left to do whatever so I wrote this blog. Tonight I only have homework in one class so the few extra minutes at the end of class really helped me out.

11/21 blog = EXTRA CREDIT

Reilly Moore Extra Credit 11/21/17 What is Kiva and what do they do? Kiva is a non-profit foundation that helps people around the world. The foundation is based in San Francisco and it works by getting people all throughout the world to make loans over the internet to people who need the money. The loans are usually around $25 and are 97% likely to be cashed back to you. There are tons of people who need help for different reasons so you can pick the one that fits you the most and gets you most eager to help out. Two potential borrowers; Jamal in Lebanon - He would like a loan of $2,000 to help pay for his three boys’ tuition fees. This sounds like a good place to loan some money because this man is using the money for a good cause. He is trying to pay for his three sons’ education. Education is very important and I think it would be very helpful to donate to him and his family. Kandjime Group in Mali - She wants a loan of

Today in class we took a test. Class today was only 45 minutes because of mass so it went by quickly. The test was surprisingly easier than I thought it would be. We started off with the 15 minute section with 15 questions that we had to answer using the CIA.gov world factbook. Those didn't take me very long, although I did get stuck on a few questions and Mr. Schick gave me a hint and I was able to figure it out. The rest of the test was matching or fill in the blank so that was kinda easy. Then we had a few questions to answer by using the given population pyramids, those were kinda hard but overall I think I did fairly well. Then we had two bonus questions and I think I got one of them right. Then after I handed the test in I wrote this blog so that way I have no homework.

11/16

Today in human geo we finished with the presentations. About 4 people went and it took like 40 minutes to get all the way through. They ended up being entertaining because there were a lot of jokes and funny moments. Then I had to go to the bathroom so that took me like 5 minutes. I had to go all the way up to the third floor because the second floor girls bathroom was under maintenance. When I got back we were in the last presentation. Once we were done we discovered that we will be having a test on Monday on population. I will have to study over the weekend.  Then we started to review for the test so that was helpful and now I feel more prepared so that's good. Hopefully I will get a good grade on this test so that I can pull my grade up from a B to an A. Overall today's class was pretty laid back.

11/15

Today in human geo we started off by letting a few people make up the pop quiz, this took less than ten minutes so that was good. Then we continued with our sharing of the presentations. Yesterday we only got through a few groups and today we probably got like five ish groups done. The groups today had a lot of pressure because some of the kids were asking questions and keeping the presenters very involved. There was another group that did the B project so at least my group wasn't the only one. Each group took about 5-10 minutes, some more and some less. I think we have like 5 or more groups left to present so I assume we will be finishing that up tomorrow. I don't know when we will be having a quiz or test next but I'm assuming it will be sometime next week.

11/14

Today in human geo we presented our population pyramid/world hunger google dox. I dint know that we had to present so my group and I were caught a little off guard but we still did fine. The first group that went did a power point with multiple slides and it was really good so that set the bar pretty high. We ended up going second and I thought we did really well. We did the B side of the project and I think most other people did the A. I do think we did a good job for the B so I think we will be getting a good grade, hopefully!   Then when we finished some other groups went. I think we only got through like five groups, so I guess that means we will be finishing up tomorrow. We also took some notes in our journal while the other groups presented. Tomorrow will probably be similar to today.

11/10

Today in class we started off by retaking the pop quiz from the previous day! I'm very happy because this will hopefully hep my grade. I think I got a 100% so thats really good. We talked about the quiz and reviewed it and then we talked about parent teacher night a little bit. Then we got into our project. There is a project about population pyramids that we are starting. You can choose to do more work and hopefully get an A, or you can do less work and get a maximum of a B. It is a group project so my partners are Gracyn and Ashlyn. We had to all connect onto the Google Doc so we could work on it together and we struggled with that for a little while so that took most of the remaining time in class to do. We then realized that we will not have this class on Monday and all three of us have a free together Monday so we are going it finish it then! I really hope we get a good grade on this project!

11/9

Today in Human Geo we started off with a fire drill, that took about 25ish minutes to complete. Then we moved into class and we had a POP quiz. I know I did super bad on it because some of the questions are ones we learned when I was absent. We reviewed it at the end when everyone was finished taking it and I think I only got like 5 questions right. Hopefully I can still get an A at the end of the quarter. Then we spent the rest of the class talking about parent teacher conference. He asked us what we wanted to tell our parents and he asked us whos parents are coming. He asked for some feedback on how his class has been going and what we thought. Overall we didn't do much in class because the fire drill took a lot of the time away.

11/8

I was not in school today because i'm not feeling well.

11/ 6

Today in Human Geography we started off by talking about Mr. Schick and his music career and what movies he worked on and who he has met and how he got involved in the business. Then we talked a little about his world travels and his wife and kids and why he decided to move to Chicago and back again to Maryland. Then we reviewed the population powerpoint about TFR and RNI and push and pull factors and more. Then he said we will probably have a test on Friday about this stuff so we talked abut possible test questions for a little while. Then for the rest of class we talked about population pyramids. There are three different types of pyramids- Christmas tree, cup, and box. We discussed all the features of each. That is where we left off at the end of class.

11/2

Today in Human Geography we talked about TFR. that stands for total fertility rate, which is the average number of children born per women. In order for a population to remain the same the TFR must be 2.1. if its higher population will rise and if its any lower then population will fall. The world TFR is 2.42. Then we did some research on CSI webpage about some questions. These questions included finding population, finding the average TFR in many different countries, find GPD per capita and unemployment. We also looked at obesity and a little about religion- specifically which country has the highest percentage of catholics throughout a few countries that were selected by Mr. Schick. Overall todays class was pretty productive and I think we learned alt that could possibly be on a future test or quiz.
